GWR 3900 Class Project

Back in the early 1900's the Great Western Railway found they needed a more powerful locomotive than the 3600 class 2-4-2 tank locos (nicknamed Birdcages) to deal with the increasing weights of their suburban traffic. As an interim measure they took 20 withdrawn Dean Goods 0-6-0 tender locos and converted them into an early version of 2-6-2 tanks. These were the 3900 class and were introduced in 1907 and all were gone by 1934.
At an estimated price of 149 pounds, these elegant tank engines can add a lot of action to your layout, subscribe and support their production.
