LSWR Drummond T14 Class Project
Back in the early 1910s the London & South Western Railway needed more powerful express locomotives to handle increasingly heavy main-line passenger trains to the south coast. Dugald Drummond responded by introducing the T14 class 4-6-0s in 1911–1912. Ten of these distinctive four-cylinder engines were built, instantly recognisable by their large driving wheels and “paddlebox” splashers. Intended for fast services to Bournemouth and Salisbury, they represented an ambitious step forward, though heavy coal and water consumption and mechanical issues limited their success. Despite this, the T14s remain a fascinating and charismatic chapter in LSWR steam development. All were withdrawn by the early 1950s.
At an estimated price of 175 pounds, these elegant Edwardian express locomotives can bring unique pre-Grouping and early Southern Railway character to your layout — subscribe and support their production.
